Past Programs

Lab and Field Explorations in Marine Science was a NOAA-funded professional development program that run in years 2004 - 2011. it brought current local marine science topics to middle and high school teachers and their students. Activities were introduced to teachers through summer workshops. Implementation of the activities was supported by visits to classrooms or field sites by MLML staff and graduate students.

The Marine Biotechnology and Bioinformatics program was established in 2004 and ran summer workshops annually for five years. The program was expanded in size and scope in 2006. The K-2 STARTS Monterey Institute was a 2011 collaboration with the San Joaquin County Office of Education to bring marine science activities to teachers in grades K - 2.

In addition to week-long and multi-year projects, program staff have participated in special programs such as an all-day workshop for middle school students and their parents through the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) in November 2002 and a field-based workshop for the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) in July 2009.
